Robert Puhek '76

Robert Puhek '76

We Puhek brothers, Tom'75, Bob '76 and Tim'84, have always felt blessed from the beginning to have our loving parents Rita and Jim. Their deep Catholic faith, boundless love and unwavering commitment were the foundation on which we were able to receive the formidable education and life-shaping experiences we each enjoyed at Gonzaga Preparatory School.

My dad Mr. James Puhek, born in 1931 in Trentwood WA, lived his entire life in Spokane. He served his country for 42 years in the Washington Air National Guard and the U.S. Air Force. His quiet strength, warmth, and humility seemed to naturally draw people to him and he never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand. He was our hero.

My mom Mrs. Rita Puhek, born in 1932 in Butte MT, moved to Spokane to attend the Sacred Heart School of Nursing. After receiving her R.N. degree in 1953, she and Jim were married, eventually celebrating 54 years of marriage. Those who felt Rita's love, kindness, and compassion truly remember her as an angel.

Through her, we got a glimpse of God's unconditional love for us.

Their middle son, my brother Bob`76 tragically lost his life at 21 years of age in 1980. He was a police officer for the city of Walla Walla at the time of his death.

Although he was taken from us far too soon, the light of his life continues to illuminate our lives each day. It was with great pride and purpose that this memorial scholarship in the name of Robert P. Puhek has been established.

It was our parents' hope that this in some way will aid future Gonzaga Prep students who may otherwise be unable to attend this transformational school our family so greatly admires.
