A. Roy Stiles '49

Two organizations made an impact on the life of A. Roy Stiles '49, a Montana businessman who died in February 2019. One was Maryhouse, the famed shelter and soup kitchen in New York founded by Dorothy Day. The other was Gonzaga Prep, which received an unrestricted gift of $1 million by his estate last spring.

"By giving back so generously, Roy Stiles paid tribute to the Jesuit education he received in a way that leaves a lasting legacy for generations to come," said president Michael Dougherty.

"His time at Prep meant a lot to him. He thought it would be a very good place to share some of his savings," said his brother Charles, who lives in Broadview, MT, where Stiles also lived. "I think he hoped it would make a difference in the lives of students there now."
